My new shop is slowly coming together, I just need some time to upload more photos and write product description. It's been stop and start at the moment what with my full time job. It's been really strange these past few weeks getting up and going to work every day (I hope I don't sound like a lazy person!) I've been so used to having free days over the week it still feels odd working everyday.

I will be a full time illustrator. One day. Just got to keep perserving for now, save up some money for a car and a dog of course.

New shop

Well hasn't the week just flown by?! Sometimes I feel as though the days have somehow merged into one another... man I seriously wish the days were longer!

I have decided that my shop needs a mega update as it looks really sad at the moment. Every time when I update it, it crashes and I have to get Sam to fix it for me. Plus I think the layout is really old school! After finding a free shopping site (which works wonders by the way) it is time to say good bye to Prestashop! Prestashop has served it's purpose for the past 2 years but if only it'd stop crashing and have nicer themes I'd stick with it. What I'll be using now is better to update, less glitchy, super themes and looks slick.

It's nice to have Etsy but at the same time I've always wanted a shop where I can customise the layout myself and make it look unique, like a proper shop really.So for now the new shop is currently under going major transformation and I'm going to take better photos as well. I've looked at a few Etsy shops for a tad inspiration. All I need to do is to focus more about the photography, what I'm actually promoting and to write better product descriptions.

So far it's been a massive learning experience for me and I'm going to put more effort towards the shop. More news about the shop to follow but for now enjoy the rest of the week!

My day time job: ABA Tutor

So I thought I should write about my day time job partly because I feel there isn't enough awareness about ABA. I was debating whether I should post this up on my website... heck I might copy and paste this at a later date.

At the moment I'm an ABA tutor and I'm doing illustration at the side. When I tell people this I just say "I'm a tutor for children with autism." But it is really more than that!
ABA means Applied Behaviour Analysis, the simplest way to define it is ABA looks at excessive and deficit behaviours with autistic children and applies specific behavioural interventions. Usually ABA is used at an early stage of a child's life. There's a lot of background theory to it but what I've found most interesting is how certain consequences reinforces positive and negative behaviour and that environmental factors have a significant impact on the function of the behaviour. Have I lost you already?! Basically without waffling on loads behaviour is maintained through reinforcement (must be contingent.) When you put the theory into practise that's when you understand it more, trust me you do!
So if a child is learning something new, say cup, the child would get consistent positive reinforcement every time they touched the cup. The reinforcement can be anything from a high five (which I love doing) to a toy, DS... so as long as the child knows if they do this they get the toy. Simple!!!

There really is more to this and I shan't go on. The main reason why I'm writing about this is because I've met some very extraordinary children through this job and working with children autism is so much fun! It can be really challenging at times but the positive side of it is seeing the child learning all these skills and knowing that one day they'll be independent in one area of their life.

I've been an ABA tutor a year and a half now and I hope to continue with it or in this area of work. Whilst doing illustration when I get back from work of course!

The Dandy Lion Market

Yesterday I was part of The Dandy Lion Market at the Boogaloo in Highgate. I sold a few things and met some nice stall holders. And I ate way too much cake! I've not done any markets in over a year so it was great to be back into the swing of things. I'm going to do more markets now because I want to push my prints and cards, relying on Etsy isn't so good at the moment. I might as well get out there and be direct with people.

Next week I'll be at FLEE Market at Corsica Studios (Sunday 21st to be exact.) I'll defiantly be selling more prints and offer loads of discounts too. So don't miss out!

Here we go again this is actually doing my head in. In the previous post I sold the Snowy Owl print because I sort of made a mistake without realising. And then I made some prints and sort of noticed it half way through......

I love making mistakes at the moment.

I made a really stupid mistake when I sent this off to print for Sorted London. I didn't see this mark when I was doing it in Photoshop, probably because of the computer screen. Anyway there's a tiny mark which I didn't erase and now I'm being paranoid about it. So now I've just spent more money printing this one out again, to make up for it I'll be selling this one for £18. It's a Giclee print on Somerset Enhanced Velvet Paper 255gsm, has a really lovely velvet quality to it.

I think I may have mentioned this in a previous post but just to let you guys know I'm part of an online exhibition selling all my lovely wares at i-am-an-artist-designer. Each artist gets their own profile page, you can read all about me over here.

The days and weeks seem to be merging into one another. I am currently trying to find a job in Hong Kong. And that's been one of my travelling plans for a very long time. I've been itching to go travelling for as long as I can remember and as much as I love London I think I'm ready to move out of that comfort zone, mainly because I need to do it for myself.

I'll post more about it when I hear from this place, fingers and toes crossed I'll bloody get it.

There's an exhibition which is taking place in June and again I can't really say much until we've sorted all the promo things out. Ah there's so much to talk about but I must keep my mouth shut!

Anyway I made this illustration for Illustration Rally's Ganbare Nippon: Japan Tsunami Appeal. After weeks of deliberating whether to switch to Cargo Collective or continue to use Wordpress I thought the best option was to carry on with using Wordpress because it's tech friendly and it's free too. And I also like how you can install plugins with a click of a button. I figured if I could find a similar theme like Cargo Collective then why the heck not (again, something free because I'm skint.)
Another reason why I switched was because, visually, the old website looked really bland and boring. I noticed people would look around for about a minute and disappear. The layout was messy and I got really sick of looking at it......

A quick update about shipping for both my shops.

I'm still trying to figure out how to add an option for Royal Mail International Signed For (International of course) and UK orders Recorded Signed For as I know some customers would prefer to do it that way, though it can be pricey depending on the weight of the parcel but at least you can track your order. As I'm currently only sending things out First Class I think I'd like to give my customers an extra option just to be on the safe side. It can be really annoying when an item gets lost in the vast portal of the delivery system.....

In the meantime though if you'd like to have your item signed for I will change your invoice for you before you make a payment.

Dreaming of a Romantic Christmas

Hello there! How's it going? I've nearly finished my Christmas shopping....been running around town like a headless chicken trying to get it all done. Tonight I'm going to pop into Liberty's and buy my big bro something from there.....

In the mean time I'm dead chuffed to have my bits and pieces featured on two Etsy Treasuries (both from last week.) Over the past few months I've been working hard to push for sales but also to have fun as well :) Next year will definitely be adding more prints that's if I get a rather fancy printer for Christmas (ahem....)

I will be closing my shop for the holidays starting from next Wednesday 18th as I'll be going home for Christmas.

Just a mega quick update about some new products at my Envelop shop and Society 6 store (gonna be eating noodles very soon....!) I designed this floral geometric pattern about a week ago for my blog oh lovely things. It's been a while since I've designed a pattern and for next year might start doing some more based around triangles, shapes, flowers etc.

Noise Festival

Hello there! Having a good week? I've been busy buying and looking for Christmas gifts and I wrote a little article about internet shopping over on my other blog oh lovely things.

Anyhoo I've been taking part with Noise Festival which is an arts charity based in Manchester providing funding and creative opportunities for new artists. These were the folks who organised and joined up with Wayne Hemingway to set up Kiosk Kiosk, a pop-up shop which was based in London Bridge. It was totally free for artists and designers to sell their work, all you had to do was turn up early to set up it and be nice to people (mainly tourists and business peeps!) I was part of it back in 2009 and it was a great experience to have my own stall for a few weeks and to sell as much stuff as possible. The London one was a trial based event and judging from the Kiosk website they're rolling it out in other parts of the country, again fantastic to see something like this happening. I hope more people know about what a great job Noise Festival do.

I also sold some of my products at the Noise Lab pop up shop and the space was also used to host exhibitions, work shops and other events.

They wrote up a little feature on the November Newsletter about my work, yeessss!

I made some original postcards for the Secret Santa Fundraiser giveaway and you can see who else is taking part by going here. And Jon Burgerman and Carol Anne Duffy is on the list!!! Woooo.
